Making our voices heard Lisa will check if Rob was able to send the proposal re discussions with Barbara Spicer to Jon by the deadline of 25th February A discussion took place about the needs of older LGBTs who need care assistance. As Barbara Spicer is the Chief Executive of Communities and Social Care, it was felt that we should make her aware of the homophobia and heterosexism experienced by some LGBTs within the care system. Steve Pugh, from Salford University, is carrying out some research into the needs of older LGBTs. Dawn agreed to contact him and invite him to one of our forthcoming meetings.
Future Meetings
It was agreed that April’s meeting would focus on action planning for the coming 6 months Subsequent meetings will focus on planning for Manchester Pride
Manchester Pride
Concerns were raised about the huge increase in cost to have a stall at this year’s Lifestyle Expo. Last year, LGBT community groups paid £75. This year, community groups are expected to pay the same as statutory and other groups, ie £470. Lisa has contacted Pride about this and is awaiting a response. Date of next meeting: Wednesday 29th April at 7pm at Eden Don’t forget the photo-shoot on: Wednesday 8th April, 6.30pm at Eden
