- Welcome and introductions to new members and visitors
Website
- The website is up and running and just needs a few final finishing touches.
- It was agreed that the website looks very professional and thanks was expressed to David for his patience with a few problems that were experienced along the way
- Can all members have a look at the website and get any feedback to Lisa asap.
- Lisa and David set a date to meet to discuss future updating and maintenance of the website
3. LGBT Carers’ issues
- Judd Skelton from Salford City Council attended the meeting to talk about his remit to address LGBT carers’ issues and to look at how we may be able to work together. He has responsibility for commissioning all carers services in Salford and currently directs people to Salford Carers’ Centre
- A discussion took place about whether existing carers’ services are being marketed appropriately to LGBT people – with the exception of Salford Carers’ Centre, there was no knowledge of any other organisations in Salford doing this kind of work
- Specific issues for elderly carers that need to be addressed
- More joint working necessary. It was agreed that we would look at holding an event to mark National Carers’ day in December. Partners to include Salford LGBT Network, Salford City Council, Salford Carers’ Centre, Age Concern Salford, and the LGF. It was agreed to meet at 6pm at Eden on 29th July to discuss this further.
- The LGF are running a course for LGBT carers. It may be possible for this to be run in Salford.
4. Manchester Pride
- Lisa confirmed that a stall has been booked and paid for in the Lifestyle Expo. After discussions with Salford LGBT Employees’ Group, Lisa has requested that we have an adjoining stall so that we can staff the 2 stalls between us all. Pride have agreed to endeavour to meet this request.
- Lisa will circulate a rota for network members to add themselves to
- Lisa will find out where the t-shirts we had last year were printed
- Dawn will ask Eden if they will donate a meal for 2 for a prize draw
- Sian offered to help design a questionnaire for Pride. Lisda will send the existing one over for Sian to have a look at.
- We need to order some more freebies for the pride stall quite urgently to ensure they are ready on time. Network members to have a look at the company website we used last year and get any suggestions to Lisa asap: www.emcadgifts.co.uk
- Lisa will arrange a sub group meeting re Pride and will send the date out asap
Date of next monthly meeting: Wednesday 29th July at 7pm at Eden
