Minutes 18.2.09
Present: Josh, David, Pete, Rob, Ben, Lisa, Robin, Pete, Jon
Apologies: Dawn, Barbara
Matters arising from last minutes
- Draft Healthy Weight Strategy: Jon has sent his comments back direct. No other feedback from Network members. It was agreed that we want to continue to be consulted about a variety of issues so that we have the opportunity to comment if there is something of relevance.
- Bank Account: Rob will get new forms from the Co-op Bank and endeavour to get them completed asap.
- Funding of the Network. There was an error in the last minutes: the Communities of Interest are regarded as engaging with communities. The question is over what will the CVS regard as acceptable engagement activities. Jon is attending the Task Group meeting next week and will report on the Communities of Interest.
Making our voices heard
- It was stated that as Salford has the second largest LGBT community in Greater Manchester, we must make sure our needs are being met. Rob suggested inviting Barbara Spicer, the Chief Executive of Salford City Council, to a meeting with us based on our agenda and ask her directly what is going to be done to meet our needs in Salford. It was emphasised that we would need to be well prepared for such a meeting and be very clear about what we are asking for. Rob agreed to write up a draft proposal to be circulated amongst Network members for approval. Jon agreed to take this proposal to the Task Group meeting so he needs to receive it by Wednesday 25th February at the latest.
Network website
- A lively discussion took place about the draft new website that David has been working on. The website can be view at: www.odear.me.uk/salford Many suggestions were made and David agreed to take these away and re draft the website. The following are some of the points that were raised:
- Our logo needs to be more prominent
- The multi-coloured layout was generally liked
- Eden logo and Partners IN Salford logos need to be added – perhaps on a separate ‘supporters’ page’. This could be used as a selling point for future sponsorship
- The main information about the Network ie what we do needs to be more immediately available and visible. More community focused.
- Too much block text – needs to be broken down more
- More photographs to be added
- Light grey text difficult to read
- Website needs to be easily accessible for us to do our own brief updates alongside David’s ongoing quarterly updates
- It was agreed that a forum area may be something to consider for the future but to keep it more basic for now
- Keep the coloured bars still when they are clicked on
- Add our Mission Statement
- Add monthly minutes to website
- It was agreed that everyone would e-mail their comments to Lisa over the next week to be passed on to David
- Ben offered to meet with Robin to discuss the website ideas
- Jon agreed to provide David with information about how to access the Salford City Council picture library.
Date of next meeting: Wednesday 25th March at 7pm at Eden
